Three Things You Want to Avoid in Your Poker Party

Hosting a successful poker party will need guts, discipline, and a lot of hard work. The success of a poker party also comes with doing the right things and avoiding everything that may pose as a problem.

There is reason why the saying that 'prevention is better than cure' still sticks around. By avoiding the things that may become troublesome later on, you will be able to go through the night without worrying too much. Thus, you will be hosting a stress-free and smooth poker party.

Here are three things you would want to avoid when hosting a poker party.

1. Messy food

Remember that you will be dealing with people playing cards. Thus, you won't have the luxury to eat food properly, as most of the eating will be done while playing. Because of this, you don't want to serve messy food.

However delicious that pasta or clubhouse sandwich may be, it will be a burden to eat while playing poker. What's more, there will be a good chance that messy food will ruin the felt of your poker table. For your poker party, it would be best to serve simple finger food like nachos and chips.

2. Bankrupt players

Since you are having a poker party and not a poker tournament, you would want to keep things really light and enjoyable. If the amount of bets forces everyone to become really serious, then consider your party ruined.

Keep the buy-in really minimal, so as to make everyone go home happy, even if they lose. Better yet, do betting improvisations like 'dare' chips instead of cash bets. In that way, you will really have a fun night of poker, without having to take the 'party' aspect out.

3. Uninterested players

Make sure that when you are hosting a poker party, everyone on your guest list is interested and will have fun in playing poker. The last person that you want in your party is a killjoy that will be grumpy most of the time about how 'boring' poker is.

A poker party is not a good way to introduce poker to a beginner. Hanging out with them is. If you do have a novice player as a guest, make sure that they know what the party will be like beforehand.

Remember, the only way to be a really successful host is if you are greatly prepared. Avoid messy food, huge buy-ins, and try to invite only those who are really interested in poker and you will surely have a rockin' good poker party.
